In addition to the natural beauty spots and architectural attractions that keep visitors coming throughout the year, Hua Hin also has several noteworthy festivals and events worth making the special trip for, or checking out if you happen to be in town.
The Hua Hin International Kite Festival is held in March when the winds are favourable. Kite flying has long been a competitor sport in Asia, and the festival, now into its 1st decade, is truly international, with competitors coming from all over the world. In addition to the arial displays, there are plenty of food and souvenir stalls. It takes place at The Rama VI Army Camp just north of Hua Hin.For more info visit the TAT web site
Songkran, or Thai New Year, falls on the full moon in mid-April. This is the most popular festival in the Kingdom, and is a time for visiting family, making merit, and having a giant water fight on the streets. Hua Hin Jazz Festival is usually held in the first week of June. It has grown rapidly over the years and is now a major international event, drawing music -loving crowds from throughout Asia and beyond. The line-up is of a high caliber, and the event has a festival vibe, with marquee stages, beer and food stalls all on the beach. It can get very crowded, so be sure to book accommodation well in advance, and to arrive at gigs early to secure a good view. More at the official web site
The Hua Hin Regatta takes place in August. It's a colourful spectacle with over 300 competitors taking part in a variety of classes. Spectating is free from the beach, and the bars and restaraunts are alive with nautical talk during the event. More at the regatta web site
Hua Hin Food Festival is held in November at Queen Sirikit Park. Local hotels set up stands offering their finest cuisine. Try different Thai dishes, imported foods, and specialities from South East Asia, or just relax by the beer tent and enjoy the live jazz.
The Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally usually takes place in December. There have been five events so far and the classic cars make the 225km journey from Bangkok to Hua Hin, parade around town following a route that takes in the Railway Station and Klai Kangwon Palace, then park up to be admired outside The Sofitel Central Hotel. There is always a great selection of cars in pristine condition, including E-Type Jaguars, Mercedes, Alfa Romeos, Fiats and many more. More on the official web site
