Attractions in Hua Hin

Hua Hin, famous for the summer residences of the Thai royal family, has lots of 1920s colonial style architecture, and retains a stately, organized and serene atmosphere.  In addition to the courtly influence, there are interesting temples and beautiful natural attractions like caves, waterfalls and pristine beaches. Tour operators will offer excursions to some of the points of interest in surrounding areas. There are 5 local beaches accessible from Hua Hin, and Hua Hin beach itself is a 7km long stretch of white sand, relatively undeveloped compared to some other resorts.

Kaeng Krachan National Park is Thailand's largest national park covering 3000-sq-km. Located only 40km from Hua Hin, this abundant rainforest has become popular with visitors from Hua-Hin. One of the park's most popular attractions is the eleven-tiered Pa-La-U Yai and Pa-La-U Noi waterfall. Several operators in Hua Hin provide tours to the falls and other areas of the park.

Maruekhathaiyawan Palace This Italian designed summer palace was built in the early 1920's for King Rama VI. Using fine teakwood in the boarwalks and verandhas, the palace is a pleasant diversion, located 9km south of Cha-Am.

Panee Butterfly Farm, located opposite Klai Kangwon Palace is home to many different species of butterfly and also has an aviary housing beautiful tropical birds. The pretty gardens are filled with local flora and orchids.

Klai Kangwon Palace King Rama VII built this palace located on the beach just north of central Hua Hin as a summer home to escape the heat of pre-monsoon Bangkok. Designed in a European-style with a Spanish influences, it was completed in 1929 and is still used by the Royal Family as a residence. In addition to extremely attractive buildings and furnishings, there are carefully manicured gardens and a fascinating shell museum When the Palace isn't being used, it is open to the public each day between 9.00 AM and 4.00 PM.

Cha-am Beach is around 30 kilometers north of Hua Hin. This is one of the most popular pleasure beaches in the area, and therefore gets fairly busy with locals at the weekends. There is plenty of local colour, with food vendors serving up tasty treats and good restaurants and cafes. The beach itself is pretty, good for swimming, and there are some jet-skis and banana boats for hire. There is also shade in the form of trees, and some of the resorts put out sun beds and umbrellas.
